The Show
Viva Cuba! is an unforgettable encounter with the people of Cuba and their culture. With their rousing rhythms and melodies, recounts the ancient history of the Cuban ancestors, African slaves, Spanish immigrants, the dazzling extravagance of the rich in the 1940’s and 1950’s and the 1959 revolution.
We recount the unshakable will of a self-confident people, the fiery passion between man and woman and, obviously, the all embracing love of life of the Cuban people.
“VIVA CUBA!“ is a fantastic musical journey through Cuba’s history in four acts: (1) The Afro-Cuban Roots. (2) The Spanish shaped colonial life in 19th century Havanna. (3) The thrilling, legendary night life of the “Roaring 50’s“, the casinos, cabarets and night clubs. (4) The revolution and life on the island in the all-pervading Salsa passion.
A young and modern show of the undaunted love of life and thrilling eroticism, and the very best of Cuban dance and music. Nearly 50 outstanding dancers, singers and musicians in 500 spectacular and colourful costumes against a lavish backdrop. A show full of passion, romance and sensuality from the very heart of the Caribbean Islands.
The show has been staged under the producers Carlos Ribet, Peter Krick from Düsseldorf (Showkontor GmbH) and Yolena Alonso (Yoldance showprodutions) that is more spectacular than anything that has ever been produced in Cuba – Modern and rich in tradition in a spectacular production vying with the very best of Broadway musicals.
A cautionary note in this context: This is not a watered down folklore show. “VIVA CUBA!” is the real thing – young and authentic, modern and full of charm, passion and emotion with an innovative approach to the country’s music and dance traditions to give an entirely new insight into the history and life of the wonderful island of Cuba.
The vibrant, energy-charged choreography was created by Yolena Alonso, one of the country’s leading choreographers and director of the Yoldance company that form the dance ensemble of the show.
All the music in “VIVA CUBA!“ was specifically composed for the show by two of the country’s leading musicians, namely Salsa star Pachito Alonso, the musical director of the show, and the avant-garde composer Edesio Alejandro.
The entire “VIVA CUBA!“ team consists of well over 100 members: from the creative team, the dancers and musicians of the ensemble to set designers, make-up artists, dressers, costume designers, painters, tailors and carpenters.
